Privacy policy.
Last updated 3 November 2026
This policy explains how ByteStudio ("we", "us") handles personal information. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What we collect
When you send an enquiry through our contact form, we collect:
- your name and email address
- your phone number, if you choose to give it
- your message and anything else you include in it
- the date and time, your browser type, and a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address
When you visit the website, our server records standard technical details: your IP address, the pages requested, the date and time, the referring page and your browser type.
If you become a client, we also hold the contact, billing and project details you give us, along with records of our dealings with you.
We don't ask for sensitive information, such as health details. Please don't include it in your message.
How we collect and hold it
We collect personal information directly from you: through the website, by email, by phone, in meetings and through our work together. Enquiries are stored on our server and in our email system. Client records are also kept in our accounting software.
We protect this information with encrypted connections, restricted access and spam and abuse controls. No system is completely secure, but if a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the regulator where the law requires it.
We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes below or to meet legal and record-keeping obligations. After that, we delete it or remove the details that identify you.
Why we collect, use and disclose it
- to reply to your enquiry and prepare quotes
- to deliver, bill for and support our services
- to keep the website secure and working, including blocking spam and abuse
- to meet our legal obligations, such as tax and record-keeping
We don't sell your personal information. We won't send you marketing emails unless you've agreed to them or the law otherwise allows it, and you can opt out at any time. We don't use personal information to make automated decisions that significantly affect your rights or interests.
You can browse the website without telling us who you are, and you can use a different name for a general enquiry. We do need a working email address or phone number to reply, and we can't provide a quote or services without enough information to deal with you.
Client login
The client login isn't active yet. Any email address or password typed into it stays in your browser and isn't sent to us. We'll update this policy before client accounts begin.
Cookies and analytics
Our own website code doesn't set cookies, and we don't use analytics or advertising trackers. Cloudflare may use cookies or similar technical data to keep the website secure.
Who we disclose it to, including overseas
We use the service providers below, which may receive some personal information so that the website and our business can run. They may process it outside Australia, including in the United States and other countries where they or their suppliers operate.
- Cloudflare: delivers and protects the website, and runs the Turnstile security check that separates people from bots. It receives your IP address and technical information about your browser and device.
- Google Fonts and jsDelivr: deliver the website's fonts and code. They receive your IP address and browser details when your browser loads those files.
- Amazon Web Services (Amazon SES): delivers the emails we send, including replies to your enquiry. It handles the email address and the content of those messages.
- Intuit (QuickBooks Online): our accounting software, which holds client billing records.
We may also disclose personal information to our professional advisers, or where the law requires or allows it.
Websites we build for clients
This policy covers ByteStudio's own website and business. If you use a website that we built or host for a client, that client decides what personal information its website collects. Please see that client's privacy policy.
Access and correction
You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by emailing [email protected]. We'll need to confirm your identity first. We'll reply within 30 days. If we can't do what you ask, we'll explain why in writing and tell you how to complain.
Complaints
If you think we've breached the Australian Privacy Principles, please email [email protected] with the details. We'll look into it, may ask you for more information, and will give you our response in writing within 30 days.
If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it last changed.
